Didi Hairston - Mental Health Advocate
A compelling, down to earth look into life being mentally ill and Black.
My Story
"What goes on in this house, stays in this house."
"Black people don't do therapy."
"Get over it."
Sound familiar? Well, then you're in the right place!
Mother of depression. Daughter of depression. Sister and friend of depression.
I AM DEPRESSION!
No PHD'S. NO ABC'S.
Just a mental illness warrior getting loud about erasing the shame and breaking generational pain.
The good, the bad, and the worst.
Welcome to Behind the Mask.

I have been fighting the depression monster all of my life. I started writing to give people a glimpse into the REAL struggle. I believe that knowing that you're not alone is helpful in your road to a better life. Some of us will never be cured, but we can live better.
The pain of depression without the filter.
My Mission
My mission is to break the chains of generational shame and trauma regarding mental illness in the black and brown communities. I want to end the passing down of toxic secrets and end the stigma of mental illness.

My work is aimed at the men, women, and children in black and brown communities that have been shamed and raised to ignore their mental health.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!
